Here is another post I found in the draft basket…what do you think?
What happens when revivals come? When there is a burgeoning of the Spirit’s activity, the falsehoods of the devil also revive in full force to oppose the truth and the gospel.
May we who pray for reformation fit ourselves to be ready for the ensuing ideological combat that always accompanies such revivals.
But this brings up another thought: what sort of warfare are we, as members of the kingdom of God, called to?
The church on earth has been called “the church militant” for centuries. And the New Testament not infrequently compares the saints to soldiers. Our warfare and battles are called spiritual and mighty, taking place before the powers in the heavenly places. Like most other soldiers, we are servants and ambassadors, representatives of something greather than ourselves; witnesses, pilgrims, wanderers, messengers, and under a more precise law. As Christians in the world, we are occupying forces; we are citizens of another kingdom, servants of God, children of the Most High, redeemed, saints, spiritual warriors.
What does our warfare look like? Is it just one thing we do? Is is just certain “Christian” activities that we do? Is this warfare just one part of our lives? Or is it inherently part of everything we do? Or does it inform every activity, imbuing it with a holy purpose?
Simply because of our definition and new identity as the people called out by God, simply because we are soldiers, serving another, everything we undertake reflects on our King. That means that everything we engage in may properly be called “warfare”.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” ~Ephesians 6:10-12
There is so much more to be said on this topic…perhaps I’ll make a series of it…what do you think? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thoughts on the subject? Things I missed?
