“I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.” ~Psalm 145:1-3
We are indeed called to praise our God every day, with thanksgiving and a grateful heart. Yet, there are also times especially suited to rejoicing in the many blessings our God has granted to us. It has not been unusual in American history for days of thanksgiving to be declared, days set aside for a time of general public thanksgiving to the God who has so richly blessed this nation. Though this original purpose of the annual “Thanksgiving Day” every November has been somewhat lost, many families still gather together on this day as a day of celebration–ours included. Our number was smaller than usual this year, but we still had a pleasant and happy day, setting the time aside to rejoice and feast together with the blessings the Lord has provided for us. For many years, at least some in our family have dressed for the occasion in some version of historical costumes…and, of course, as usual when our family gathers to fellowship, a pleasant feast is spread…and the cameras come out….
