Westminster Larger Catechism in modern English question number forty-five:
Q. 45. How does Christ perform the office of a king?
A. Christ performs the office of a king by calling a people out of the world for Himself, giving them officers, laws, and rebukes by which He visibly governs them; as well as by bestowing saving grace upon His elect, rewarding their obedience, and correcting them for their sins; by preserving and supporting them in all their temptations and sufferings; by restraining and overcoming all their enemies; by powerfully ordaining all things for His own glory and their good; and by taking vengeance on the rest of mankind who do not know God and do not obey the gospel.
